Over the past two years, the global economic crisis has impacted upon millions of families around the world. Inevitably, increasing poverty takes its toll on the most vulnerable, especially children.
It has been a challenging time for charities and non-governmental organisations working to help the disadvantaged. In turbulent financial markets and global recession, many traditional sources of funding have dried up.
Despite these conditions, ARK’s Trustees, Patrons and Donors maintained their support for ARK’s work and continued to give incredibly generously. They ensured that ARK’s programmes could continue to deliver and grow.
ARK’s business model has also been fully tested in this climate, and I would like to think that it has been shown to be robust. ARK:
- underwrites lifetime programme costs
- undertakes comprehensive risk assessment – especially tail risk
- is prudent in deciding how money is spent, and which new commitments to make
- focuses on sustainability
There is so much need and no shortage of worthwhile and compelling projects that help children and their families. Our challenge is always to find the niche where ARK can be a catalyst to meet our core objective of ‘transforming children’s lives’.
