ARK Academies’ Ethos

ARK has high expectations for it students. Through its schools, ARK aims to ensure that every student achieves a high enough academic standard by age 18 to have real options, either to progress to higher education or follow the career path of their choice.

ARK applies fundamental principles in all its academies. Staff and students are expected to aim for the highest standards of behaviour, conduct and achievement. ARK focuses on the basics of reading, writing and mathematics as a foundation for success in all subjects: all ARK Academies have specialist status in Maths. ARK ensures school experiences that are relevant, important, challenging and enjoyable so that all students value learning.  Students are set individual targets to ensure that each one is on ambitious but appropriately levelled courses. Finally, ARK Academies have an effective behaviour management system with clearly articulated expectations and routines. 

ARK structures its academies around a “small schools within a school” model in which every pupil knows and is known by every teacher within their small school. This structure helps teachers to focus on learning, behavioural and pastoral issues, as well as to challenge and stretch their pupils appropriately.
