Our English language programme (ASPIRE)
Our mission is to design an English language programme that unlocks the potential of thousands of children across India in different types of schools, in both primary and secondary education.
Our ASPIRE (Allow Synthetic Phonics to Improve Results in English) programme focuses on the established phonics teaching method, which has already proved effective in other areas of India and in Africa, China and Japan. This approach had not been used in government and low cost private schools in India, with most relying on the insufficient and old-fashioned rote learning of English.
Watch children in Delhi learning to read English using our approach
We have linked with international publishers to keep down the cost of course text books to ensure phonics-based English teaching is no more expensive than traditional methods. We are also creating user-friendly teacher training manuals to help schools introduce and expand the programme without incurring higher staff costs.
We formally assess the ASPIRE children at least once a year to track progress and build a solid base of evidence for the model's impact.
