Current Programme Overview (Delhi)

The School Leaders for India (SLI) programme is designed to improve the quality of the education provided in Government schools in Delhi. The programme helps to develop school leadership teams who will lead a quality change programme within their school as well as performing their normal duties.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To develop a model of good practice in school leadership for government -aided /NGO schools serving low income households
  • To create and implement a well paced and robust school improvement plan driven by the school leaders
  • To train present and future school leaders to improve student educational achievement of children in the schools they lead
  • To reduce drop-out rates among students in schools led by the trained school leaders

The programme lasts two years and provides participants with rigorous and intensive training that takes place out of school hours and provides them with:

  • A four day induction programme
  • For the first year, monthly three day training sessions on a range of leadership subjects which participants then have to implement in their school during the following month. Topics include: school models, school management, mathematics and language teaching methodology and community outreach
  • For two years, intensive leadership coaching and mentoring from trained coaches and educators
  • Research-backed curriculum design principles that strive to transform knowledge, skills and attitude by delivering competencies that include being evidence-oriented, stake-holder oriented, transactional leadership and improved communication and analytical skills
