Looking ahead
Our first task is to set up and run the new schools with PEAS. This will
enable us to gain first-hand experience of how to manage secondary
schools effectively in Uganda, and build our credibility with the
government and local communities.
Under the planned roll-out, two schools will open in 2012, four in
2013 and four in 2014. We believe the schools will demonstrate how
the public-private partnership education model can be part of a
long-term solution to deliver secondary education.
Taking the programme to scale
We will be advocating for the integration of successful elements
of our partnership model into mainstream government education
policy, with the hope that our programme establishes a diversified
model of delivery.
Initial discussions have also taken place with the Ministry of
Education which may lead to us also running newly-built
government schools. This option would significantly reduce the
amount of money we would need to invest in building schools, and
would allow us to support thousands more young Ugandans to access a
high quality secondary education.
We appreciate the vast scale of the education challenge in Africa
and know how much we still have to learn. But further ahead, we
believe that our partnership model for Uganda can play a role in
broadening secondary education across Sub-Saharan Africa.
