ARK’s Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Programme Exceeds Target Set for 2010
September 24, 2008
Launched in December 2003, ARK’s ART programme provides lifesaving treatment and care to HIV+ primary caregivers, their partners and children in South Africa. The programme target was to enrol 32,681 such patients onto antiretroviral therapy (ART) by 2010. By the end of June this year, a full 21 months ahead of schedule, ARK had exceeded this target reaching 32,963 ‘ARK patients’ (caregivers and children) as well as a further 15,976 patients without children. To date ARK’s ART programme has benefited over 64,000 children preventing them from being orphaned by keeping their HIV+ parents and caregivers alive, and by treating them for the virus themselves.
