2009 Issues of update
October update
This issue highlights the progress of ARK’s academies and introduces ARK Plus, its newest education initiative. ARK Plus provides intensive support to those pupils, who may be behind in their studies and who have found the move from primary to secondary school particularly difficult. It epitomises ARK’s focus on bridging the achievement gap to ensure that children with lower prior attainment are able to benefit from quality education.It also focuses on developments in Mozambique where ARK programmes are beginning to have impact - particularly the efforts to provide AIDS treatment in government clinics, and mentor clinical staff in the delivery of these specialised services.

July update
This issue focuses on the ARK 2009 Gala Dinner which was held at the Waterloo International Terminal, London on Thursday 4 June, and specifically on how funds raised through the charity lots auctioned at the Gala Dinner will transform the lives of thousands of children. It also announces that Stanley Fink has been appointed to succeed Arki Busson as ARK chairman. Arki is remaining on the board as founding chairman, and he also remains chairman of ARK US.

May update
This issue features a letter for ARK’s trustees which focuses on the charity’s phenomenal achievements to date. It also provides a preview to the Gala Dinner 2009’s Charity Auction Lots and explains other ways donors can support ARK.

April update
This issue highlights the work of our unsung heroes of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research team in South Africa, who work tirelessly to provide the information to enable us to make informed decisions about the future of our HIV/AIDS programmes. This issue also provides an insight into our Extended Schools Programme that is contributing to the success of our academies through the wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities it provides.

February update
This issue highlights how ARK’s Children in Care’s prevention programme is tackling the root causes of why children are placed in institutions. In Bulgaria ARK’s prevention network has so far supported over 1,000 families. The HHC-ARK Partnership for Romania has also ensured that many children are able to stay with their families, the story of one of these children, Sebastian is told in this issue. This issue also focuses on education and highlights the importance of ARK’s UK literacy and leadership programmes which aim to raise attainment across ARK’s academies and inner city schools.

January update
This issue celebrates King Solomon Academy’s achievement of being rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in their recent inspection. We also congratulate Andrew Day from Future Leaders who last month became the first graduate of the programme to be appointed Principal of an inner city school. Also in this issue, Devon Hanson, Principal of Walworth Academy, shares his vision for the Academy and how he is working tirelessly to make this a reality and inspire every student who is under his care.
